Maximilian von Grafenstein
Maximilian von Grafenstein LL.M. is head of the research programme “Governance of Data Driven Innovation” at the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG). He is also a lawyer at iRights.Law and runs the legal tech startup INNOVATION AND LAW, which focuses on privacy- and security-by-design solutions. Max’s research focus lies on the governance of data driven innovation. In the last four years, he has run the HIIG Startup Law Clinic and has helped more than 100 entrepreneurs to resolve the legal challenges they face as innovators. Currently, he’s leading a research project on “Privacy and Security by Design in Smart Cities”. Max holds an additional master’s degree in international IP and IT law and is a member of several Big Data research projects funded by the German government as well as of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
