In 2012 Urban Farm secured Workshop and Rooftop space at The Chocolate Factory, a new creative community developing in an old factory in the heart of Dublin. Together the team are researching and demonstrating intensive urban growing techniques, growing food, keeping fowl, fish and bees. The Urban Farm now hosts events and community groups and provide hands-on workshops that teach responsible food production, carpentry, energy-saving systems, ecological cycles, and community self-sufficiency observing organic & pesticide free practices.
Biography
Dublin’s first Urban Farm has been established and devised by Andrew ‘ Dougie’ Douglas. With a background in sound engineering and interest in horticulture. Against the odds, Dougie and others are practically testing and developing urban farming methods including mushroom growing, aquaphonics and city compositing. The farm has caught the interest of Dublin’s media and general public and as a grass roots initiative is considered as a poignant counter-balance to the city developments that dominated the city during the Celtic Tiger years.
