Andrew presents his views on the impact and influence of the strategic planning of culture on Bristol, including and programmes he has delivered across the city

Biography

Andrew Kelly is director of Bristol Cultural Development Partnership and Bristol Festival of Ideas, and is a visiting professor at the University of the West of England. His projects in Bristol include the strategic planning of culture across the city; leading Bristol’s bid to be capital of culture in 2008; Brunel 200; Bristol800; and the annual Bristol Great Reading Adventure. He led the cultural regeneration of Harbourside Bristol in the 1990s; was director of the Brief Encounters Film Festival for five years; worked on the development, management and implementation of the Bristol Legible City project 1997-2002. In 2014 he directed Bristol2014, the largest UK programme commemorating the centenary of the First World War. In 2015 he directed six major arts projects with Arts Council England, including Festival of the Future City. His current work includes Festival of Ideas, the second Festival of the Future City (October 2017) and a project on culture and the fourth industrial revolution. Andrew is the author of 12 books, including All Quiet on the Western Front: the Story of a Film; Cinema and the Great War; and Brunel – In Love With the Impossible (with Melanie Kelly).
