“Summer School for Applied Autonomy” in Berlin was established as a research initiative aimed at capturing the complexity of the technical know-how but also the social, political and affective aspects involved in autonomous living. This presentation will focus on the process and outcomes of the initiative, including reflections on what it may mean to create change at a local, community level.

Biography

Valentina Karga is an artist and architect. After she graduated from University of Thessaly, she has been fellow at the University of the Arts Berlin (UDK), Graduate school. Her work addresses issues such as autonomy, the DIY, the commons and the role of participation and collaboration in the contemporary society and the arts. She is the founder of the “Summer school for Applied Autonomy” in Berlin, a research initiative interested in capturing the complexity of the technical know-how but also the social, political and affective aspects involved in autonomous living.
