Delve into the history of radio in post-war divided Berlin with museum educator and researcher Oleg Lutohin has teamed up with critical engineer Danja Vasiliev to create a new workshop on the repair, upgrade, and preservation of vintage radio systems.

Drawing on radio history, media archeology and museum studies methods, learn how to mend old vintage radios and upgrade your Stern radio to Bluetooth. Bring your radio, or come and experiment with those available at the workshop and leave armed with the deeper knowledge our spectrum histories. Limited to participants. No prior knowledge of radio or engineering is required. The workshop will be in English. Bring your own radio, or play with those avail. Open to all types of radio repair this workshop will run as a special collaboration with Hackspace, FinnowStr 2a, as part of the Urban Host, 10th Anniversary, Block Party.

Biography

Oleg Lutohin is a visiting researcher at ZOiS Berlin, where his work explores representations of nostalgia in post-soviet contexts with a focus on German and Russian museums. Prior to embarking on this research he was Director (2021-22) and Head of Education (2016-2020) at the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Center, also known as Yeltsin Center, in the central Russian city of Yekaterinburg. He holds an MA in social philosophy from The Ural Federal University, Yekaterinburg and for several years ran, in Yekaterinburg the independent bookstore Kleister and was editor of the city’s magazine What’s The Fashion?
