Adam Thomas
Presentation
Syria is perhaps the most uniquely documented conflict in history. Hundreds of videos a day surface on YouTube, often showing attacks in nondescript urban environments. Precisely locating these urban environments through digital cartography, often within minutes, is an essential practice changing the way journalists work, and the way the world understands these towns and cities. Using real life examples, Storyful’s Adam Thomas shows how footage from both sides of Syria’s conflict can be used in parallel alongside digital investigations of online maps to identify what is happening in Syria’s streets.
