In the depths of the Irish economic recession George Boyle set up Fumbally Exchange and turned an empty and disused warehouse into a vibrant co-working space. Fumbally became part of the heart Dublin’s vibrant D8 quarter. Drawing on her experience of establishing Fumbally and over 25-yrs as an architect, whose passion lies in initiating grassroots change through the built environment, George presents a vision for how we could re-imagine Dublin though its physical spaces.
Biography
George Boyle is an architect, published columnist, award-winning designer and one of Ireland’s leading social entrepreneurs. Graduating in 1992 as an architect from University College Dublin (UCD), she worked on various public and private projects with firms such as Scully & O’Donnell and Murray Ó’Laoire Architects. At Murray Ó’Laoire she worked for fifteen years and in 2000 became it’s associate director, where she specialised in negotiation and interpretation in relation to building laws and development. In 2010 she set up georgeboyledesigns and founded Fumbally Exchange with Markland Holdings Ltd. Fumbally Exchange became one of Dublin’s first co-working spaces and aimed to assist design professionals to start up and recover from the bleak effects of recession. Fumbally Exchange played a pivotal role in transforming Dublin 8, which is now considered as Dublin’s design quarter and is considered as a leading example in co-working spaces in Ireland.
